Method for determining an integral sun protection factor encompassing UVA and UVB radiation

A technology of sun protection index and sunscreen agent, which is applied in the direction of magnetic resonance measurement and electron paramagnetic resonance measurement, etc. It can solve the problems that the protection cannot be quantified without moderate changes, and it is no longer suitable for correctly expressing the protective effect of sunscreen agents, so as to achieve reliable sex enhancing effect

Embodiment 1 and 2

[0103] Two different sunscreen samples were tested, both obtained higher protection in UVB, and obtained different UVA protection levels: sunscreen A is physical sunscreen TiO2, SPF is 26, UVA PF (PPD) = 5; sunscreen Agent B is a UV filter organic sunscreen with an SPF of 39 and a UVA PF(PPD)=12.

[0104] Both products were applied to the skin surface at 2mg / cm2 and tested based on three exposure times. Uncovered biopsied skin was also tested, with one group exposed directly to the solar stimulator and a second group exposed through a neutral density filter with an attenuation of 30. Each free radical formation data reported in Table 3 is the average of four biopsies.

Embodiment 3-8

[0130] To determine the selectivity of integrated SPF for different UV filter widths, specific sunscreen formulations were obtained with different UVB and / or broadband UVA / B filters.

Abstract

The invention relates to a method for determining an integral sun protection factor (¿‹ SPF or iSPF) which encompasses both UVA and UVB radiation and can be used for classifying cosmetic and dermatological sunscreens. The method comprises the steps of applying a defined amount of the sunscreen onto a defined area of a skin substrate impregnated with a spin trap, exposing the skin substrate to a defined amount of UVA- and UVB rays by a sun simulator, subjecting the skin substrate exposed to radiation to an electron spin resonance (ESR) measurement, recording the number of free radicals trapped as a real number x 1012 free radicals / mg of skin sample, and determining the integral sun protection factor ¿‹ SPF according to the equations (1) and (2) and (8).

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a method for determining an integral sun protection factor (∫SPF or iSPF) including UVA and UVB radiation, which can be used to classify cosmetic and dermatological sunscreens. Background technique [0002] It is well known that UV radiation greatly increases the production of free radicals in the skin. Generates reactive oxygen species such as hydroxyl radicals * Oh - , superoxide anion radical O 2 - and singlet molecular oxygen 1 o 2 , which in turn allow the formation of lipid radicals L * . Cosmetic and dermatological sunscreen preparations therefore contain UV filters and additionally contain small amounts of antioxidants. [0003] In addition, it is known from the publications of the 22nd World Federation of Cosmetic Chemists Symposium (Edinburgh 2002, Oral Papers, Vol.2, Zastrow et al.) and other publications that imaging by electron spin resonance (ESR) has been Determine the different depths at which U...
