Problems solved by technology

Certain designs that include structures that allow the user to intentionally act to destroy or render the syringe inoperable, for example, destroying the syringe or destroying one of its components
In addition, there are single-use hypodermic syringes in which the user does not have to act on any of the parts, rendering the syringe unusable for automatic drug release again

Embodiment Construction

[0017] With the understanding that this disclosure is to be considered as a typical illustration of the principles of the invention and is not intended to limit the invention to the illustrated embodiments, we have shown in the drawings and will A detailed description is given in a preferred embodiment of the present invention.

[0018] With reference to accompanying drawing 1-7, syringe 20 comprises a barrel 21, and this barrel 21 has a barrel inner surface 22, a liquid chamber 23, a proximal end 25, a far end 27 and a extending from this far end. An elongated tip 28 having a passage 29 in fluid communication with the fluid chamber. In this embodiment, the elongated tip is preferably frusto-conical.

[0019] Barrel 21 preferably includes a ring 31 having an inner surface 32, with at least one third of the ring engaging the receptacle.

[0020] The syringe of the present invention may be used with a conventional needle assembly 40 comprising a needle 41 having a proximal end...

Abstract

The present invention provides a syringe comprising a barrel and a plunger rod; the plunger rod has a proximal end and a distal end. The distal portion includes a bung slidably positionable in fluid-tight engagement with the inner surface of the barrel. There is also retaining means which holds the proximal and distal portions together during normal use of the syringe and which is susceptible to breakage when additional force is applied to the proximal portion. There is also blocking means which prevents the proximal portion from applying a distally directed force to the distal portion after the frangible connection is broken.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a syringe with a breakable plunger rod to prevent the syringe from being reused after a liquid has been released or injected. Background technique [0002] Hypodermic syringe products intended for single use but actually reused globally are vehicles for drug abuse and infectious disease transmission. Intravenous drug users who use drugs on a daily basis and reuse syringes are at high risk for AIDS. In addition, the impact of multiple use is a major concern in countries where the reuse of syringe products may be at the root of the spread of many diseases in mass vaccinations. In developing countries, syringes are often reused without proper sterilization. [0003] Many attempts have been made to solve this problem. Certain designs include features that allow the user to intentionally act to destroy or disable the syringe, for example, destroying the syringe or destroying one of its components. In addition, there are ...
