Problems solved by technology

Product design is often influenced by cost and manufacturing constraints, resulting in single-use pants that lack aesthetics and product functionality
Additionally, a full fit requires a depth in the crotch that is difficult to achieve in a garment-like boxer short with overhanging legs when utilizing conventional manufacturing processes

Embodiment Construction

[0071] As representatively shown in FIGS. 1 , 2A and 2B , the embodiment of the pant 10 of the present invention includes a garment outer layer 64 . Garment outer layer 64 may include front region 22, rear region 24, constricted crotch region 26, inner surface 28 configured to contact a wearer, and outer surface 30 opposite inner surface 28 configured to contact a wearer's garment. The pant 10 also defines a pair of longitudinally opposing waist edges referred to as front waist edge 38 and rear waist edge 39 . Front region 22 is adjacent to front waist edge 38 and rear region 24 is adjacent to rear waist edge 39 . Front region 22 comprises a portion of pant 10 which, when worn, is located on the front of the wearer, and rear region 24 comprises a portion of pant 10, which is situated to the rear of the wearer, when worn. The constricted crotch region 26 of the pant 10 comprises the portion of the pant that, when worn, is positioned between the wearer's legs and covers the wea...

Abstract

A boxer-style pant and a method of making a boxer-style pant having side seams, a contracted crotch region, and hanging legs. A web is provided. The web may be a single pant assembly, or a continuous web of multiple pant assemblies connected to one another. The web may be folded against a support structure. In certain embodiments, a multi-lane production system may be used wherein the web is folded against multiple support structures each parallel to a direction in which the web is conveyed, with each lane or machine direction array of pant assemblies folded against just one support structure. The web is cut along transversely opposed edges of the web to define leg openings. The leg openings may be formed by cutting slits along the transversely opposed edges of the web. The web is contracted in a selected area between the leg openings. Front and back regions are then joined together to form the side seams. An absorbent structure may be attached to the web.

Description

Background of the invention [0001] The present invention relates to a method of making pants having side seams and a constricted crotch region. More specifically, the present invention relates to a method of making boxer shorts having side seams and a constricted crotch region. Boxer shorts can be absorbent or non-absorbent. [0002] Pants-like garments have a variety of uses, including disposable garments, training pants, feminine care products, adult incontinence products, disposable swimwear, or the like. Disposable garments similar to pants are typically three-dimensional products with closed sides so that the product has a single waist opening and two leg openings. The wearer lifts and lowers the garment to apply the product. Three-dimensional boxer short-like products are particularly attractive because boxer shorts look more like conventional apparel products. [0003] Many disposable pants are formed as composite structures in which several component parts are comb...
