[0031] The device and method of the present invention utilizes a metallic layer liner, such as an aluminum layer with a paper back, which is present in all cigarette packs. Rather than applying a security tag to the cigarette pack, the apparatus and method of the present invention integrates a security tag onto the metal layer of the liner during liner formation. Thus, once the liner is formed, a security liner (eg, EAS security tag or RFID security tag) is embedded within the liner itself. Also, cashiers can disable these security tags close to the point of sale (POS). Additionally, manipulation of the liner (eg, removal of the torn portion) to access the cigarettes once the user has opened the pack of cigarettes may also render the security label ineffective.
