Problems solved by technology

Also, potential attachments and their copies are not processed, and the overall email body and email headers are visible
Therefore, if two email bodies are not identical, they are treated as completely different, thus storing highly redundant
Furthermore, there is no adequate and easily visible visual display of individual emails, email chains, or even email strings
[0005] Thus, conventional handling of such complex email string structures, especially when including email copy functionality, results in the accessibility of the email information presented on the interface Inefficiency and wasted storage of emails in email server programs and email client programs

Embodiment Construction

[0029] figure 1 A system overview of an embodiment of the invention is given. An email server computer system 1 is coupled to an email client computer system 2 via a communication link 3 .

[0030] In one embodiment, the server 1 comprises an email data normalizer 11 to normalize email data and thereby remove redundancy in multiple related email strings. Furthermore, the server 1 includes an interface generator 12 to generate a graphics-based interface for providing presentation and handling of emails. Relational database 13 stores email data, such as individual email messages, and references between emails and other information, as will be described in more detail below. In various embodiments, the database 13 may also be implemented using one or a set of flat files or XML files. The interface output component 14 provides a graphics-based interface to the email client 2, which uses its interface builder 12 to provide a graphical user interface to enable user interaction as...

Abstract

A method of low-redundancy e-mail handling, wherein: e-mail data is selected, attachments of e-mails comprised in the e- mail data are detached, stored and replaced with references accordingly, and wherein further e-mail threads comprised in the e-mail data are identified and split in separate e-mails, duplicates of e-mails are deleted while maintaining their e- mail references, differences between a first e-mail and an immediately preceding second e-mail of the same thread are identified, generating difference data, the first e-mail is replaced by the difference data, and a reference to the second e-mail is inserted therein, the e-mails and references to their predecessors and successors in the same thread are stored in a data storage, and a graph-based interface is generated for the stored e-mails and references, and an e-mail server computer device, e-mail client computer device, data processing program, computer program product, and computer data signal therefor.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a method of low-redundancy e-mail processing, as well as e-mail server computer equipment, e-mail client computer equipment, data processing programs, computer program products and computer data signals thereof. Background technique [0002] In actual e-mail usage situations, for example, when forwarding or replying contains a long mail string (thread), the e-mail received by the user often contains multiple other e-mails. In cases where multiple senders are involved in a particular letter, the user may even receive the entire mail string more than once, or the user may receive multiple, partially overlapping mail strings from different senders. Therefore, when such e-mails are automatically processed in a conventional manner, a large amount of data redundancy occurs. [0003] Typically, systems for e-mail processing (such as IBM Lotus Domino / IBMLotus Notes, IBM Workplace Collaboration Services / IBM Workplace Managed Cl...
