[0069] The glass performance characteristics of various types of insulating glass units (IGUs) are shown in the table below. The sun is simulated facing the pane 1 . The window performance of the glazing units shown in the table below was simulated using Optics5 and Window5 modeling software from the Window and Solar Group of Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, USA (http: / / windows.lbl.gov / software / default.htm). All results reported are calculated for glass centers. Optical data published by the International Glazing Database (IGDB) were used when available. Spectral measurements (where necessary) of the films were measured using a λ9 spectrophotometer, and the spectral data were imported into Optics5 and Window5 for necessary calculations. The following substrates and films were used for the examples shown in the table below.

Abstract

An insulated glazing unit is described and includes a first transparent substrate spaced apart from a parallel second transparent substrate, a sealed void space defined between the first transparent substrate, second transparent substrate, and the window mounting member, and an infrared radiation reflecting multilayer polymeric film disposed between the first transparent substrate and the second transparent substrate. The infrared radiation reflecting multilayer polymeric film includes a plurality of alternating polymeric layers of a first polymer material and a second polymer material. At least one of the alternating polymer layers is birefringent and oriented. The alternating polymeric layers cooperate to reflect infrared radiation.

Description

[0001] Cross references to related patent applications [0002] This patent application is a continuation-in-part of co-pending U.S. Patent Application No. 11 / 422,368, filed June 6, 2006, entitled "INFRAREDRADIATION REFLECTING INSULATED GLAZING UNIT," which Incorporated herein by reference in its entirety. Background technique [0003] The present disclosure generally relates to an insulating glass unit provided with an infrared reflective polymer film inside. [0004] It is known that energy can be controlled at windows through reflection, transmission and absorption of solar radiation (achieved by glass type and emissivity of the glass). An insulating glass unit (IGU) facilitates heat gain or loss from a window through three mechanisms: conduction; convection, whereby the air flow within the IGU acts as a heat transfer agent; and radiation or reradiation of absorbed heat . When solar radiation reaches the IGU, the energy is absorbed and either conducted or re-radiated. ...
