Abstract

The invention provides a generation method of a regular dodecahedron map projection, which comprises the following steps: positioning the position relationship between a map projection and a regular dodecahedron; extracting initial geographical data to obtain the corresponding geographical position of each vertex of the regular dodecahedron; determining each edge of the regular dodecahedron based on the vertices, and respectively forming a pentagon by using five edges in the same plane; projecting the initial geographical data to the regular dodecahedron plane after plane; removing the part excluding the pentagons, and outputting to obtain twelve pentagon maps; and splicing the twelve pentagon maps into the regular dodecahedron. The invention breaks the restriction that the traditional projecting planes are flat ones and developable curves, can project the earth onto the twelve congruent regular pentagons, thereby greatly reducing errors caused by deformation. The three-dimensional regular dodecahedron map generated by a two-dimensional manufacturing technology has the advantages of good planar visibility and low printing cost, thereby being beneficial to the popularization and the advancement of geographical science.
