Abstract

A transseptal delivery system includes an elongated first tubular member and an elongated second tubular member received within the first tubular member. The first tubular member includes an adjustable portion adjacent its distal end. The second tubular member is adapted to receive an instrument to be placed within the left ventricle and includes an arcuate portion in a relaxed state adjacent its distal end. The adjustable portion can be flexed towards the atrial septum to guide the punch tool and / or guide the insertion of the second tubular member through the septal hole into the left atrium. Within the left atrium, the arcuate portion is oriented toward the left ventricle to guide the insertion of the guidewire into the left ventricle and thereafter the insertion of the second tubular member. Transvenous access to the left ventricle is also provided.

Description

technical field [0001] Embodiments of the present invention generally relate to systems for delivering medical devices to the heart, and in particular, to catheter-type delivery systems for placing devices within the left heart. Background technique [0002] In some instances, it may be desirable to deliver and position a medical device within or near the left side of a patient's heart in order to diagnose and / or treat cardiovascular disease. As just one example, in some cases heart failure patients may be treated with cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT), which is delivered by a set of electrical leads, one of which is placed near the left Ventricles, for biventricular beating. Traditional left ventricular (LV) lead placement is placed laterally into one of the tributaries of the coronary sinus (CS). However, by some estimates, up to 40-50% of CRT patients fail to respond to CRT with conventional CS lead placement. An alternative to traditional CS lead placement is le...
