Abstract

This application concerns the use of loudspeaker front chambers. A portable electronic device has a housing with a top wall, a bottom wall, at least one side wall connecting the top wall to the bottom wall, a sound output opening, and a rear cavity defined by the top wall, bottom wall, and at least one side wall. A speaker driver is located within the housing, the speaker driver including a sound radiating surface having a top surface and a bottom surface for emitting sound waves therefrom. A frame member is attached to the speaker driver, the frame member forming a front chamber that acoustically couples the top surface of the sound radiating surface to the sound output opening, and overlapping one side of the speaker driver and acoustically coupling the bottom surface of the sound radiating surface to the back chamber of the back chamber.
