Embodiment Construction

[0023] Example embodiments will now be described more fully with reference to the accompanying drawings.

[0024] exist figure 1 A vehicle incorporating a suspension system having a shock absorber according to the present disclosure is shown in and generally designated by the reference number 10 . Vehicle 10 includes a rear suspension 12 , a front suspension 14 and a body 16 . The rear suspension 12 has a transversely extending rear axle assembly (not shown) adapted to operatively support rear wheels 18 of the vehicle. The rear axle assembly is operatively connected to the body 16 by means of a pair of corner assemblies 20 comprising a pair of shock absorbers 22 and a pair of helical coil springs 24 . Similarly, the front suspension 14 includes a transversely extending front axle assembly (not shown) that effectively supports the rear wheels 26 of the vehicle. The front axle assembly is operatively connected to the body 16 by means of a second diagonal assembly 28 comprisin...

Abstract

A shock absorber includes an elastomeric spring bumper that engages a spring bumper cap during relatively large compression movements of the shock absorber. The spring bumper cover includes a spring bumper nose retainer that engages the spring bumper nose during the compression movement. The spring bumper nose retainer constrains sliding movement of the elastomeric spring bumper relative to the spring bumper cover, thereby eliminating noise associated with the relative movement.

Description

technical field [0001] The present disclosure generally relates to hydraulic dampers or shock absorbers for use in suspension systems, such as suspension systems for motor vehicles. And more particularly, the present disclosure relates to a hydraulic damper or shock absorber that includes a spring bumper nose retainer that interacts with the spring bumper to eliminate slippage and noise. Background technique [0002] This section provides background information related to the invention of the present disclosure which is not necessarily prior art. [0003] Shock absorbers are used in conjunction with a car's suspension system to absorb unwanted vibrations generated during driving. In order to absorb these unwanted vibrations, shock absorbers are generally connected between the sprung part (body) and the unsprung part (suspension) of the motor vehicle. A piston is positioned within a pressure tube of the shock absorber, and the pressure tube is connected to one of the sprung...
