Problems solved by technology

If the pulse signal is lost, the baroreceptors reset and blood pressure may no longer be sensed accurately
[0007] Although stents have been used in carotid arteries for many years, the main disadvantage is that they tend to adversely affect the pulsatility of the implanted vessel, making them less ideal for lowering blood pressure

Abstract

An implantable frame includes a plurality of corner structures configured to reduce pressure on a vessel wall and define a pulsatility-enhancing window of the implantable frame. The corner structure may comprise a plurality of adjacent longitudinal struts extending in the longitudinal direction of the vessel wall when placed to shape the vessel wall into a substantially polygonal cross-section and distribute the pressure load of the corner structure between the plurality of adjacent longitudinal struts to improve biocompatibility. The corner configuration also allows for increased shaping of the vessel wall and can provide stretching of the vessel wall to enhance the pulsatility of the vessel wall.

Description

[0001] cross reference [0002] This application claims priority to U.S. Patent Application Serial No. 61 / 815,664 [Attorney Docket No. 41594-707.101], filed April 24, 2013, entitled "IMPLANTABLE VASCULAR DEVICEHAVING LONGITUDINAL STRUTS," the entire disclosure of which is adopted by incorporated herein by reference. Background technique [0003] 1. Field of invention. The present invention generally relates to medical devices and methods. More specifically, the present invention relates to devices and methods for shaping portions of the wall of a blood vessel to enhance the response of stretch receptors located in the region of the wall. [0004] Existing methods and devices for treating blood pressure provide suboptimal results in at least some instances. [0005] Hypertension is a medical condition characterized by elevated blood pressure and can be caused by several underlying factors including genetics, obesity, diet, and more. When diagnosed, high blood pressure is ...
