Embodiment Construction

[0051] The same reference numerals are used throughout to refer to the same parts.

[0052] In a first embodiment, the collapsible container may be configured in a (first) unfolded configuration in which the container is in the form of a bowl, or the container may be configured in a (second) collapsed configuration. exist Figure 1A and Figure 1B , the bowl 10 is in an expanded configuration. Bowl 10 includes a number of resilient, semi-rigid elongated blades 12a-12c and a pair of connecting means, generally indicated at 14, in the form of fastening assemblies. exist figure 2 In , the bowl 10 is in a collapsed configuration with leaves 12a-12c on top of each other. The leaves 12a-12c are in the expanded configuration and are generally flat in the folded configuration. By "semi-rigid" it is understood that upon manual manipulation of the bowl 10, the leaves are bendable from a folded configuration (where the leaves are flat) into an arcuate shape and that the material of ...

Abstract

A collapsible article, for example a colander (50; 60) or bowl (10; 90), comprises a plurality of semi-rigid, elongate leaves (12a-c; 52a-c) each having first and second ends. The first ends are attached together and the second ends are attached together. The leaves are moveable to reconfigure the article from one to the other of: an expanded configuration in which the leaves are spread to form a bowl shape, and a collapsed configuration. The article, when in the collapsed configuration, is of less volume than the bowl-shaped article. The leaf is typically less curved longitudinally in the collapsed configuration than in the expanded configuration.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates generally to a collapsible dome-shaped article, and more particularly to a collapsible container such as a colander or bowl. Background technique [0002] Containers such as bowls and colanders can be difficult to store. They take up a lot of space in cupboards, dishwashers, drainboards and more. These items may also be difficult to access when removing from and putting into the cabinet. There are also situations other than the kitchen, such as when camping, where it is desirable for the container to be compact. [0003] A known collapsible colander disclosed in patent document US2010 / 0170840 has three parts: a rigid top edge, a flexible pleated central strip and a rigid base. The flexible central strap allows the container to be collapsed to about one-third of its original height. Such colanders may be difficult to unfold or collapse, and / or may not be robust or self-supporting when unfolded and filled with contents. ...
