[0028] The present invention relates to methods of increasing blood pressure to optimal levels in subjects experiencing life-threatening hypotension or shock. The invention also relates to compositions for use in these methods and pharmaceutical formulations suitable for such treatments.
[0029]In one aspect, the invention provides a method of increasing blood pressure in a subject experiencing life-threatening hypotension or shock, the method comprising administering (i) a compound selected from at least one of : Potassium channel openers, potassium channel agonists and adenosine receptor agonists; and (ii) antiarrhythmic agents or local anesthetics. Preferably, the method further comprises administering an elevated source of magnesium ions. The method can also include administering an anti-inflammatory agent and / or a metabolic fuel.
