The ONU registration method comprises: an OLT determines first-system uplink bandwidth of a first PON system on the basis of the number of to-be-registered ONUs, not scheduled to the first PON system, of the system uplink bandwidth; the OLT opens, within the first system uplink bandwidth, a quiet window for the to-be-registered ONUs; and the OLT registers in the quiet window the to-be-registered ONUs. The present invention achieves the smooth upgrade of different systems for ONUs, and improves the efficiency of the ONU upgrade.
