The invention relates to a side entry type backlight module and a display device; the side entry type backlight module comprises a back plate, a light guide plate and a light bar; the light guide plate is arranged on the back plate; the light bar comprises a printed circuit board and a lighting piece arranged on the printed circuit board; the side entry type backlight module further comprises a light leakage preventing component; the light leakage preventing component is arranged on the back plate, located between the light bar and the light guide plate, and extended along the width direction of the light guide plate; the light leakage preventing component comprises a groove, and the groove opening of the groove is faced to the light bar; the lighting piece is at least partially held in the groove. According to the embodiment of the invention, the entry ratio of the light emitted by the lighting piece in the light guide plate is increased through changing the light propagation direction, thus the leaked light is reduced and the light efficiency is improved.
