The method comprises: (A) acquiring a user-assigned data table, wherein one row of the data table corresponds to one data record, and one column of the data table corresponds to one field; (B) providing a user with a graphics interface to set a field processing item, wherein the field processing item is used for defining how to process fields in the data table; (C) receiving an input operation which the user executes on the graphics interface in order to set the field processing item, and acquiring a user-set field processing item according to the input operation; and (D) processing fields in the data table according to the acquired field processing item, and acquiring characteristics of a machine learning sample corresponding to the data records in the data table based on the processed fields.
