The present disclosure includes non-limiting examples of retractable nose cone writing instruments (commonly referred to as "writing instruments"). Embodiments are described in detail herein to enable one of ordinary skill in the art to practice the twist and snap retractable nose cone writing instrument, but it should be understood that other embodiments may be utilized and may be modified without departing from the scope of the present disclosure. Abstract

A writing implement is provided. A writing instrument includes a body, a nose cone, and an adapter. The main body, nose cone, and adapter each include a generally hollow tubular shape and an inner surface, an outer surface, a first end, and a second end. The first end of the adapter is coupled to the second end of the nose cone. The second end of the adapter is configured to be slidably coupled to the first end of the body. A writing implement includes a writing element having a mounting end and a writing end. The mounting end of the writing element is detachably coupled to the second end of the body. The adapter includes a track, and the track includes a recessed channel in an outer surface of the adapter. The body includes at least one protrusion extending inwardly from an inner surface of the body. The protrusion is slidably engaged with the track of the adapter.
