Embodiment Construction

[0031] exist figure 1 A detail of an electronic control unit 1 for controlling an internal combustion engine of Otto engine design with a direct fuel injection system is schematically shown in FIG. The control unit has an input circuit not shown, at least one microcomputer for processing data signals and an output circuit not shown, wherein these components are interconnected by a suitable communication link for mutual communication data exchange. Input circuits (not shown) to individual measuring devices are connected to the input circuit in order to input all parameters required for an optimum combustion process in the form of suitable signals to the control device for calculation. In particular, a measuring device for detecting the engine speed, a measuring device for detecting the quantity of fresh air supplied to the internal combustion engine and a measuring device for detecting the throttle opening of the internal combustion engine are connected to the input circuit. ...

Abstract

The invention relates to a method and a device for controlling an internal combustion engine. A normal fuel quantity to be injected is detected according to a desired torque on the basis of an assumed normal efficiency of fuel injection, whereby said fuel quantity is required for producing the torque desired by the driver. Said quantity is subsequently corrected by considering the current, so-called relative efficiency of the internal combustion engine for calculating a fuel quantity that actually has to be supplied to the internal combustion engine. Torque jumps can be widely prevented when operational modes are changed in the internal combustion engine by considering the relative efficiency calculated in an efficiency model.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to a method and a device for controlling an externally ignited internal combustion engine with a direct fuel injection system. Background technique [0002] Increasing demands are placed on modern internal combustion engines with regard to, for example, reduced fuel consumption and emissions of harmful substances, as well as trouble-free operation. Moreover, these requirements should be met in any load state of the internal combustion engine and when changing between different load states. The various load states result primarily from the actual driving situation, taking into account the desire by the driver of a motor vehicle with an internal combustion engine to reduce or increase the torque provided by the internal combustion engine. [0003] In a control device of the type considered here, the ascertainment of a desired torque or torque setpoint corresponding to the driver's request is based on the position of at least one ac...
