Problems solved by technology

[0010] A second disadvantage of adding additional support software for each unsupported interface used in the computer system is that the operating system of the computer system keeps growing larger and larger with each additional support program
The performance of the computer system will be significantly impaired due to the growth of the operating system size

Embodiment Construction

[0027] The composition and application of preferred embodiments of the present invention will be described in detail below. However, the present invention provides many concepts that lend themselves to invention and are extensively specified to gain added value. The specifically described embodiment only illustrates the specific method of constructing and applying the present invention, but cannot limit the protection scope of the present invention.

[0028] The invention will be described below with respect to a preferred embodiment in the specific context, namely a UWB wireless connection allowing peripheral devices to be attached to a computer system, such as a wireless keyboard or mouse. A UWB wireless connection is a medium used for high to super high data rate wireless connections, in which the bandwidth of the transmitted signal is equal to or higher than 0.25 times the channel bandwidth. Currently, implementations of UWB wireless networks can provide data bandwidths o...

Abstract

System and method for transparently attaching wireless peripherals to a computer using an UWB wireless network. A preferred embodiment comprises an interface (for example, interface 630), a communications bus (for example, a USB 620), and an UWB wireless network adapter (for example, an UWB transceiver 610). The interface translates messages from either the communications bus or the UWB wireless network adapter so that a software stack is not needed to perform the translation at a later time. This helps to maintain the computer's reliability and performance. The system and method also affords wireless connectivity without the presence of a computer system.

Description

[0001] This application claims priority from US Patent No. 60335693, filed October 30, 2001, and entitled "Wireless PCI Single Chip Solution," which application is hereby incorporated by reference. [0002] Comparison of related applications [0003] This application is related to the following pending and generally designated patent application: Serial No.: , filed October 8, 2002, and its subject matter is BLUETOOTH transparent bridges; which application is hereby incorporated by reference. (1) Technical field [0004] The present invention generally relates to a system and method for digital communication in a computer system, and more particularly to a system and method for providing unsupported wireless digital communication in a computer system without additional support software. (2) Background technology [0005] Often, one of the most powerful capabilities of a computer system is its ability to accept the attachment of additional circuits or devices (commonly referr...
