Benefits of technology

This patent describes a way to control the temperature of a kitchen counters through the use of a thermoelectric device called a Peltier effect device. By placing this device underneath the counter and connecting it to a heat sink, the user can either cool or warm the area where they prepare their food. There are also sensors placed on both the counter and the heat sink that allow for precise monitoring of temperatures during usage. Additionally, there may be a condensation shelter and humidity sensor to help regulate the air quality near the cooking equipment. Overall, this technology allows for more efficient energy management and improved safety when working in kitchens.

Problems solved by technology

The technical problem addressed by this patent is the desire for both cool and hot food preparation surfaces depending on the type of food being prepared, without having to use separate systems for each task. This applies to both commercial and home kitchens, who currently face limitations due to cost and space restrictions.

Abstract

A countertop thermoelectric assembly includes a countertop forming a food preparation surface at an upper side thereof, at least one Peltier effect device located below the countertop, a thermal transfer plate located between the countertop and the thermoelectric device, a heat sink in thermal communication with the thermoelectric unit, and a controller to selectively operate the thermoelectric unit to cool and/or warm the food preparation surface formed by the countertop. A first temperature sensor located to provide signals representative of a temperature of the countertop. A second temperature sensor located to provide signals representative of a temperature of the heat sink. A condensation shield is located below the heat sink. A moisture sensor is located to provide signals representative of moisture at the condensation shield. At least one fan is located below the countertop to direct air over the heat sink and/or the condensation shield.
