Problems solved by technology

Another edge sealing composition described in U.S. Patent No. 6,558,748 provides excellent properties against swelling and cracking of wood composite panels, even though the simple step of applying the edge sealing composition increases the cost of the material, Increased complexity of the manufacturing process
[0006] Another drawback of these wood composite panels is that since they are usually composed of small particles (particle board), wood chips (OSB), flat chips of low-quality wood or other similar materials, products made from them can have a rough texture. Edges and uneven surfaces that require sanding as a final step in the manufacturing process

Embodiment

[0024] Wood composite panels were fabricated according to the present invention and prior art to determine whether the wood panels prepared in accordance with the present invention had good wood performance characteristics.

[0025] Pine logs and Paulownia logs (Paulownia lanko, from Arboretum, Southern California, USA) were used. These logs are then cut into pieces 1-6 inches long, 0.25-4 inches wide, and 0.005-0.15 inches thick. The chips were then dried overnight in a Grünberg forced air oven at 103°C in the laboratory. These wood chips were then pressed into 100% pine boards (the board of the prior art) and 100% paulownia boards (the board according to the invention). The chips were oriented in only one single direction, with each plank having a target thickness of 0.5 inches. In the following examples, the pMDI resin concentration of these panels was 5 wt%. The pMDI resin was Mondur G541 pMDI available from Bayer Corporation, Pittsburgh, PA, USA (no wax was used in thi...

Abstract

A wood composite board comprising paulownia strands is disclosed. The wood composite board preferably comprises from about 1 wt% to about 100 wt% of the paulownia strands.

Description

Background of the Invention [0001] Wood is a common material used to make doors and other building components. Even today, with the development of some new composite materials, wood remains one of the most widely used building materials due to its excellent strength and rigidity, pleasant aesthetics, good insulation and ease of processing. [0002] However, in recent years, as virgin and virgin forests have been gradually depleted, the supply of solid timber has dwindled, making its cost significantly higher. Manufacturing doors from these materials is particularly expensive because typically less than half of the harvested timber is converted to natural solid wood, and the rest is discarded as scrap. [0003] Therefore, due to the cost of premium timber and an emphasis on conserving natural resources, wood-based alternatives have been developed to replace natural solid wood in order to use harvested wood more efficiently and reduce the amount of wood discarded as scrap. Woo...
