This invention discloses an electronic device and a method for identification of the position of an external slot thereof. The electronic device includes a body with a bottom surface and a side surface. The external slot and an identification mark are positioned on a side surface of the body. A luminous source is arranged in the body and sends out light to the identification mark, so that the identification mark is projected onto a surface of a bottom surface for bearing the body, and the position of the external slot on the side surface of the body can be found out according to the position of the identification mark.
