Embodiment Construction

[0017] Definitions of terms used in describing the present invention are provided below.

[0018] A visual display unit (VDU) is any electronic display device capable of displaying electronic images, such as a television, video recorder, or computer monitor. Preferred embodiments of the present invention are suitable for supporting especially flat panel VDUs (such as plasma, TFT or LCD VDUs) or any similar future technology.

[0019] Typically, many VDUs have a "widescreen" aspect ratio. The preferred embodiment of the present invention is adapted to laterally support a wide screen VDU whose horizontal axis is longer than the vertical axis.

[0020] figure 1 and figure 2 View of the VDU side showing the mounting unit. In this regard, the VDU side refers to a view viewed from the side of the device on which the VDU can be mounted. Similarly, Figure 5 By a view showing the support side is meant a view from the side of the device adapted to be fixed to a support structure...

Abstract

The present invention provides an apparatus (1) for mounting a visual display unit (VDU) upon a structure, comprising: a support mounting member (10) for attaching to a structure; at least one support member (31,32) moveably mounted upon the mounting member; and at least one VDU mount (41a,41b,42a,42b) for mounting a VDU thereon, the VDU mount (41a,41b,42a,42b) being moveably mounted upon the support member (31,32) to be moveable in an upward and downward direction; wherein the support member (31,32) is moveably mounted upon the mounting member to be moveable in a direction generally transverse to the upward and downward direction.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a device and a method for mounting a visual display unit (VDU) on a support structure. The present invention relates specifically, but not exclusively, to mounting flat panel VDUs on a support structure. Background technique [0002] In order to facilitate the installation of the visual display unit, it is often necessary to install the visual display unit on a supporting structure. For example, at home it is common to mount a VDU such as a TV on a wall to avoid having to place the TV on a dedicated floor stand. For this reason, many televisions have mounting points on the back area or housing area. The mounting points may be, for example, threaded holes in the television housing for receiving suitable fixing bolts. [0003] The problem is that different VDUs (such as TVs) often have differently configured mounting points. For example, televisions from different manufacturers may have mounting points with large dist...
