Embodiment Construction

[0040] Referring to Figure 3 of the accompanying drawings, Figure 3a illustrates a cross-section of a Fresnel lens 3 in the prior art system described above. As shown, the curvature of the lens is substantially the same across the entire width of the lens. Figure 3a shows the curvature of the lens on a single plane only. As mentioned above with respect to Figure 1, the lens is also curved in the transverse direction, so that a section in the transverse plane has a similar cross-section.

[0041] Figure 3b A cross-section of a Fresnel lens 3 of a depth enhancement screen according to one embodiment of the present disclosure is shown. The lens 103 is provided with a main curvature 104 across the central part of the lens, ie the cross-sectional shape of the lens is arcuate or curved. Meanwhile, a secondary curvature 105 is provided at the peripheral portion of the lens, as indicated by an arrow. The radius of the secondary bend is greater than the radius of the primary bend. ...

Abstract

The present disclosure relates to a depth-enhancing screen for producing a simulated 3D image. The screen comprises a multi-curved Fresnel lens which when viewed in cross-section along the or each longest line linking two points on the edge of the lens, has a curved cross-section with an apex in the central region of the lens, and wherein each end of the curve flattens before it reaches the edge of the lens.

Description

technical field [0001] The present disclosure relates to a depth-enhancing screen for producing images with enhanced depth or with simulated three-dimensional effects. Background technique [0002] Depth perception is the visual ability to perceive the world in three-dimensional space. Humans (and other animals) perceive depth using a variety of monocular cues (ie, cues provided by input from only one eye) and binocular cues (ie, cues that require input from both eyes). [0003] Motion parallax is a monocular cue that can affect depth perception. As the observer moves, the apparent relative motion of multiple stationary objects relative to the background gives clues to their relative distances. Slight movement of the observer combines with the object, resulting in a better perception of depth. However, such movement does not contribute to depth perception when viewing images on a flat-screen TV or computer screen, since there is no relative movement between the objects sh...
