Problems solved by technology

One problem faced in maintaining the melt reservoir of a phase change ink printer at the temperature of the molten ink is heat loss
Heat loss in the melt reservoir requires more heat input into the reservoir to keep the ink at the melting ink temperature, which in turn increases the energy consumption of the printer

Embodiment Construction

[0015] For a full understanding of the systems disclosed herein, as well as the details of the systems and methods, reference is made to the accompanying drawings. In the drawings, like reference numerals are used to designate like elements throughout. As used in this specification, the terms "printer", "image forming device", "image maker" and the like include any device that performs a printout function for various purposes, such as a digital copier, book printing machine, facsimile machine, Functional machine etc.

[0016] now refer to figure 1 , shows an image maker, such as a high speed phase change ink image maker or printer 10 according to the present invention. As shown, machine 10 includes a frame 11 to which all of its operating subsystems and components are mounted, directly or indirectly, as will be described below. First, the high speed phase change ink image maker or printer 10 includes an imaging member 12 which is shown in the form of a drum, but which could...

Abstract

An ink storage and supply assembly includes at least one ink reservoir configured to hold a quantity of liquid ink and to communicate the ink to at least one printhead of an imaging device. A housing at least partially encloses the at least one ink reservoir and includes a top, a bottom, and a plurality of side walls extending vertically between the top and the bottom of the housing. The plurality of side walls are spaced from the at least one reservoir to define a first air gap between each of the side walls and the at least one reservoir. At least one the side walls includes an inner wall and an outer wall spaced from each other to define a second air gap therebetween.

Description

technical field [0001] The present disclosure relates generally to phase change ink printers, and more particularly to ink reservoirs for holding a supply of phase change ink in liquid form for delivery to one or more printheads of a phase change ink printer. Background technique [0002] Solid ink or phase change ink printers typically receive ink in solid form—either pellets or ink sticks. Solid ink particles or ink sticks are typically inserted through the insertion opening of the printer's ink refill, and the ink stick is pushed or slid along a feed channel to the heater by a feed mechanism and / or gravity Heater board in assembly. The heater plate melts the solid ink in intimate contact with the plate into a liquid that is delivered to a melt reservoir. [0003] The melt reservoir is configured to hold a volume of molten ink in liquid or molten form, and to deliver the molten ink to one or more printheads as needed. Thermal energy is applied to the melt reservoir to m...
