[0030] Examples of seals according to the invention are shown in Figure 1amiddle. The seal 1 comprises a sleeve-like portion 3 adapted to fit around a rotatable part such as a shaft 4 . The sleeve-like part 3 is connected to the outer housing 5 of the seal by means of a resilient part 7 . The outer housing 5 is adapted to fit eg in a bore of the housing and may (as shown) consist of a metal flange with a rubber outer diameter. Other variations are also possible, such as an entirely rubber or an entirely metal housing. The outer housing 5 is statically sealed against a housing bore (not shown) and the sleeve-like portion 3 provides a dynamic seal during rotation of the shaft 4 . Such a seal may be used to seal the gap between the rotatable and non-rotatable parts, thereby maintaining fluid on the fluid side 6 of the seal relative to the air side 9 of the seal.
