The system comprises at least one server and a plurality of clients, wherein the server contains an ebook database, an encryption module, a decryption module, a user information verification module, a user right setting module, a user client authorization module and a right monitoring module; the right monitoring module is used to monitor whether the client of the user has the reading right; after the client set by the user obtains a special authorization, the right monitoring module utilizes the decryption module to decrypt the encrypted ebook and allows the user to read the ebook through the client; and if the user does not have the reading right, the client of the user can not be allowed to read. By adopting the system and method of ebook online reading provided by the invention, ebook online reading can be realized and the number of reading clients can be effectively limited.
