Embodiment Construction

[0065] refer to figure 1 and figure 2 , a turbine constructed in accordance with an exemplary embodiment is indicated generally at 2 . Turbomachine 2 includes a compressor section 4 operatively connected to a turbine section 6 . Combustor assembly 8 is fluidly connected to compressor section 4 and turbine section 6 . The combustor assembly 8 is formed from a plurality of circumferentially spaced combustors, one of which is indicated at 10 . Of course, it should be understood that combustor assembly 8 may include other arrangements of combustors. Compressor section 4 is also coupled to turbine section 6 via a common compressor / turbine shaft 12 . With this arrangement, compressor section 4 delivers compressed air to combustor assembly 8 . Compressed air mixes with combustible fluid to create a combustible mixture. Combustible mixture is combusted in combustor 10 to form combustion products that are delivered to turbine section 6 through a transition piece (not shown). Th...

Abstract

The invention relates to a rotating turbomachine component having a tip leakage flow guide. The rotating turbomachine component includes a base portion and an airfoil portion extending from the base portion. The airfoil portion includes a first end connected to the base portion and a tip end portion that is cantilevered from the base portion. A tip leakage flow guide is provided at the tip end portion of the airfoil portion. The tip leakage flow guide includes one or more turning vane members configured and disposed to guide a leakage flow from the tip end portion at a flow angle that substantially coincides with a flow angle of gases flowing downstream from the rotating turbomachine component.

Description

technical field [0001] The subject matter disclosed herein relates to the field of turbomachines, and more particularly, to rotating turbomachine components having tip leakage flow guides. Background technique [0002] Many turbomachines include a compressor section and a combustor assembly coupled to a turbine section by a common compressor / turbine shaft or rotor. The compressor section directs the compressed air flow towards the combustor assembly through a number of successive stages. In the combustor assembly, a stream of compressed air is mixed with fuel to form a combustible mixture. The combustible mixture burns in the combustor assembly to form hot gases. The hot gases are directed through the transition piece to the turbine section. The hot gases expand across the rotating turbine blades of the turbine to produce work that is exported, for example, to drive a generator, a pump, or to power a vehicle. In addition to providing compressed air for combustion, a port...
