The modular framework is shown and described by way of example, and one or more features of the modular framework can be modified depending on the particular application. For example, the modular frame can be scaled up or down to accommodate different numbers of battery cells. Additionally or alternatively, the modular frame may be modified to accommodate battery cells of different sizes and / or shapes. Additionally or alternatively, the modular frame may be modified to accommodate different arrangements of battery cells within the modular frame. The modular frame may be formed from an (electrically) non-conductive material such as polypropylene (PPE). The modular frame helps isolate the battery cells from each other, from other system components, and from foreign materials or items.

Abstract

The invention relates to a modular frame for a battery module comprising: a base plate comprising a non-conductive material; end walls perpendicular to said base plate and comprising a non-conductive material; and side walls perpendicular to said base plate, perpendicular to the end wall and comprising a non-conductive material. The modular frame also includes an inner wall comprising a non-conductive material and defining: a first row of battery cell wells configured to receive a first plurality of prismatic battery cells; a first row of battery cell slots configured to receive a second plurality of prismatic battery cells; two rows of battery cell slots; and, a cavity disposed between the first and second rows of battery cell slots. The modular frame also includes first and second ports to the chamber. The first aperture is defined by the inner wall and the side wall. A second aperture is formed through one of the end walls.
