Embodiment Construction
[0034] Certain embodiments of the present invention provide tire treads for use in the cold retreading or manufacture of retreaded tires. In cold retreading, the tread is molded, eg in a flat mold, and pre-cured before being applied to the tire carcass. The new tread may be fully or partially cured to form a pre-cured tread before it is applied to the tire carcass. Subsequently, the pre-cured tread is deployed or placed on top of a pre-existing or used tire carcass. The tire carcass may be prepared by any known means to receive the new tread, such as by buffing, grinding, buffing or cutting the previous tread from the carcass. Prior to applying the tread to the tire carcass, a bonding material may be disposed between the new tread and the tire carcass to promote adhesion and bonding between the tread and the tire carcass. The bonding material may include any known material suitable for its intended purpose of bonding the new tread to the tire carcass. For example, the joini...
