[0022] It should be noted that the drawings are diagrammatic and not drawn to scale. For clarity and convenience of the drawings, relative sizes and proportions of parts of some drawings are exaggerated or reduced. The same reference numerals are generally used to designate corresponding or similar features in modified different embodiments

[0023] figure 1 A simplified block diagram of a sensor according to an embodiment of the invention is shown. The sensor includes an activation unit 110 and a detection unit 120 . The activation unit 110 comprises a switch 115 arranged such that the detection unit 120 can be switchably connected to a power source 130 . Typically the power source 130 is a battery.

[0024] The activation unit 110 includes a pair of electrodes 118 . A pair of electrodes 118 is shown schematically in the figure for clarity or separation from switch 115; however, the electrodes may be an integral part of switch 115 in some embodiments.

Abstract

The present invention discloses a sensor for detecting at least one of urination or defecation into an incontinence garment, the sensor comprises an activation unit and a detection unit and the sensor is connected to a power source; the activation unit comprises: two separate electrodes, and the detection unit A switch arranged in series with the power supply; wherein the activation unit is configured to activate the detection unit by closing the switch in the presence of moisture; wherein at least one of the detection unit and the activation unit includes a latching circuit, and the latching circuit is arranged to enable activation of the detection unit is irreversible. The invention also discloses incontinence garments, such as diapers, comprising such sensors. The invention also discloses methods for operating such sensors or incontinence garments.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to sensors, incontinence garments and methods of activating incontinence garments. Background technique [0002] The aging population in many parts of the world has led to increased use of incontinence garments. Changing incontinence garments when they are soaked with urine, or soiled with faeces or excreta is an essential aspect of the health care of an incontinent patient. Knowing when it is necessary to change diapers is important: on the one hand, changing diapers too often is costly and wastes diaper material and care worker effort, as well as being overly intrusive and disruptive; on the other hand, if diapers are not changed at the appropriate time, There is then a significant risk of skin irritation which may result in the need for further medical intervention and treatment which may last for several weeks and is more damaging and expensive. Additionally, by providing timely reminders, soiled sheets and leakage o...
