Embodiment Construction

[0082] With reference to the accompanying drawings, figure 1 An example of an apparatus 10 for washing contaminated glass shards or broken glass pieces or cullet 12 is shown in , comprising: a generally rectangular channel 14 containing water 16 and a pump 36 for driving Glass shards 12 move in the direction of arrow A along this channel or trough 14 .

[0083] Baffles or barriers 20 are spaced apart and are sized and arranged to agitate glass shards 12 and deflect shards 22 to ensure separation of shards 22 and glass shards 12 from each other. Less dense debris 22 , such as plastics, food crumbs, and paper, floats across the surface of the water 16 and exits the apparatus 10 via drain 23 .

[0084] The baffles 20 can be arranged at different angles manually or automatically with an actuator (not shown). An advantage of the variable angle baffle 20 is that it can be changed to accommodate different intensities of flow, and can be set or altered to prevent the accumulation of...

Abstract

Apparatus for cleaning contaminated aggregate comprises: at least one channel arranged in use to receive a liquid containing contaminated aggregate; and first and second banks or groups of at least one jet. The first bank or group of jets is arranged to direct pressurised fluid at the contaminated aggregate in order to agitate the contaminated aggregate against a surface thereby promoting separation of cleaned aggregate from contaminated aggregate. The second bank or group of jets is arranged to direct and / or urge the cleaned aggregate to a drainage outlet.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to an apparatus for washing contaminated aggregates such as glass shards. More particularly but not exclusively, the present invention relates to a method for washing glass, in particular broken glass or cullet, and for removing broken glass and cullet from the Equipment for separating debris and sediment found in domestic and industrial debris flows. Background technique [0002] Waste glass is usually collected by waste collection companies from curbside bins to recycling centers. Most glass waste comes from containers used for food and beverages, and glass waste is often contaminated with food residue and other materials such as packaging, labels, lids or caps that may be plastic, cork, and metal. [0003] Collection is usually via large containers, which are sometimes located below ground and have the option of sorting the glass into different colours. Other forms of collection are at recycling centers or involve pl...
