Embodiment Construction

[0033] refer to figure 1 , the present invention relates to a buckle 10, which is composed of a base 18 and a flap 14 connected by a hinge 16. At the end of the flap 14 is provided a tongue 12 comprising a pair of magnets with opposite poles arranged side by side. As shown, the magnet closer to the hinge 16 may have a north facing pole, and the second magnet further from the hinge 16 may have a guide pole facing upward. A slide 24 is provided at the end of the base 18 , and the slide 24 can slide in and out of the base 18 by pushing and pulling the top 20 of the slide 24 . A pair of magnets are provided within the top of the slide such that the magnet closer to the hinge 16 may have a north facing pole facing upwards and the second magnet further from the hinge 16 may have a compass pole facing upwards. Also attached to the base 18 is a buckle 22 for engaging a strap.

[0034] Slider 24 can slide in and out of base 18 . When slid out to the rest configuration, the inner magn...

Abstract

Locking device comprising a flap configured to swing on hinge towards a base, the flap having distal tongue and base having distal housing, wherein if tongue is forced into housing it is locked by mechanical catch. The flap and housing each have a pair of magnets such that magnets on flap are fixed, whereas those on housing are attached to a slider, such that whilst flap swings towards base, the slider is open and the flap magnets repel, urging flap away from housing. However, when closed flap is within housing, the magnets on flap attract magnets on slider causing the slider to slide closed. A mechanical clasp holds flap closed. Sliding the slider releases the mechanical clasp, bringing the magnets on slider into repelling alignment with magnets on the flap causing the flap to spring open.

Description

Background technique [0001] There are a variety of magnetic catches and closures on the market. The simplest of these are the magnets used to keep swinging doors closed. This hasp is often used in cabinets and the like. [0002] Like springs, magnets can also be used to resist closing a door or hasp. Because magnets are polarized, by arranging the magnets on a pair of surfaces, the surfaces can be made to attract or repel each other. [0003] EP2436280 by FiedlerJoachim entitled "mechanical-magnetic connection structure" describes a closure comprising a connection module connecting two elements and also comprising tubular or grooved guide segments configured to be inserted into each other. A permanent magnet is arranged at the base of the guide section, wherein the guide section made of ferromagnetic material has a circular cross section. One permanent magnet is fixed in a guide segment and the other permanent magnet is arranged to move in such a way that when the closure ...
