Abstract

The present invention relates to a nutritional composition such asan infant formula comprising phospholipids in an amount of at least 300 mg / L. Bioactive compounds may preferably be added to the nutritional composition. The present invention also relates to use of said nutritional composition by feeding an infant with the nutritional composition for reducing the risk of developing metabolic syndrome, increased weight gain, increased fat deposition, overweight, obesity, insulin resistance, glucose intolerance or diabetes mellitus later in said infant's life.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a nutritional composition comprising phospholipids, more particularly to an infant formula comprising phospholipids. Furthermore, the present invention relates to the use of said nutritional composition for reducing the risk of developing metabolic syndrome, overweight, obesity, glucose intolerance or diabetes later in life in an infant fed said nutritional composition. Background technique [0002] Breastfeeding is recommended for all infants up to 4-6 months of age. In some cases, however, breastfeeding is not sufficient, or is unsuccessful, or is not advisable for medical reasons, or the mother does not choose to breastfeed at all or only for a few weeks. Infant formulas have been developed in the art for these conditions. [0003] However, infants fed infant formula are known to grow faster and have higher postprandial plasma insulin concentrations than infants fed breast milk. To date there is no infant formula ...
