Embodiment Construction

[0043] The present application relates to apparatus and methods for powering tools. The tool may be part of a cluster of tools configured to attach to and receive power from the robot during use. The present application relates to providing power to the tool when the tool and tool cluster are separated from the robot. The alternative power source may be an energy storage device attached to the tool cluster tool frame. Powering the tools to be maintained in a ready state speeds up and / or eliminates the self-diagnostic process when the tools and tool clusters are subsequently reattached to the robot. This reduces the time required for the tool to be used in the assembly process, thereby increasing the efficiency of the tool system.

Abstract

The present invention discloses a device and method for providing power to a tool when the tool is not attached to a robotic device. The power source may be an energy storage device attached to a tool frame of the tool cluster. The power is provided to maintain the tool in a ready state which speeds up and / or eliminates the initialization process when the tool and tool cluster are subsequently reattached to the robot. This reduces the time required for the tool to be used in the assembly process, thereby increasing the efficiency of the tool system.

Description

technical field [0001] The present application relates to a tool system and method of providing power to one or more tools when they are not in use, and more particularly, to providing power to a tool after the tool has been detached from a robotic device. Background technique [0002] Automatic devices are often used to perform various assembly operations during the manufacturing process. An example includes an assembly line used to manufacture automobiles. Multiple automated devices are aligned along the assembly line where workpieces are advanced. Each robot is configured to use multiple tools to perform various operations on the workpiece. This may include the robot using a first set of one or more tools to perform a first set of operations on the workpiece, and using a second set of tools to perform additional operations on the workpiece. The robot is configured to attach and detach the tool set to perform various operations. [0003] Assembly lines are configured t...
