The method comprises the steps that (A) an air blower is started, and rotation speed values of a motor are detected; (B) a first allowable rotation speed scope is formed according to the detected rotation speed values; (C) when the water heater is started once again, the air blower is started at first, and a rotation speed value of the motor is detected; and (D) whether the detected rotation speed value stays within the first allowable rotation speed scope is determined, wherein gas will be supplied to a combustor for combustion if the rotation speed value stays within the scope. After a water outlet temperature reaches a corresponding constant temperature scope during the combustion, rotation speeds of the motor will be detected, so a second allocable rotation speed scope can be formed; and the rotation speed values of the motor are detected continuously, and the gas supply will be stopped when the detected rotation speed value exceeds the second allowable rotation speed scope.
