[0355] Example of Article Invention: Use of Non-aqueous Photocurable Composition to Provide Patterned Article

[0356] The present examples demonstrate the use of the non-aqueous photocurable compositions of the present invention for the manufacture of precursor articles having photocurable patterns on suitable substrates.

[0357] To print the non-aqueous photocurable compositions of the present invention (as described below), a flexographic printing unit has been used with a resolution of 12,800 dpi using Kodak Square Spot (Kodak Square Spot) laser technology. A sample of a commercially available Kodak Flexcel NX flexographic printing plate precursor (Eastman Kodak Company) was imaged with a predetermined pattern written at a rate. The flexographic printing plate precursors were UV exposed and treated (developed) using known conditions recommended by the manufacturer for these flexographic printing parts. The resulting flexographic printing plate was 1.14 mm thick (includin...

Abstract

The present invention relates to a non-aqueous composition comprising dispersed carbon-coated metal particles in an organic diluent in an amount of at least 10% by weight. The dispersed carbon-coated metal particles have a median diameter equal to or less than 0.6 μm, and have a weight average molecular weight (M w ) and the particle dispersant comprising nitrogen-containing units is dispersed. The median diameter of the dispersed particles is measured using dynamic light scattering. Furthermore, when the non-aqueous composition contains up to and including 25% by weight of the dispersed carbon-coated metal particles, it exhibits no visual settling when subjected to a settling test at 20°C for at least 24 hours. Such non-aqueous compositions may include a photocurable component and are suitable for use in the preparation of photocurable and photocured conductive patterns and layers in a variety of articles, including touch screen devices having touch screen displays.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to non-aqueous compositions containing dispersed carbon-coated metal particles and a uniquely selected particle dispersant. The present invention also relates to non-aqueous photocurable compositions containing these dispersed carbon-coated metal particles and a particle dispersant. These non-aqueous photocurable compositions can be used to provide seed metal catalysts for electroless plating processes designed to provide patterns of conductive materials. Background technique [0002] Rapid progress is being made in various electronic devices, especially display devices for various communication, financial and archival purposes. Conductive films are necessary for applications such as touch screen panels, electrochromic devices, light emitting diodes, field effect transistors, and liquid crystal displays, and efforts are being made in the industry to improve the properties of these conductive films. [0003] In particular...
