A new method is established for the identification of the cinnabar and Chinese patent medicines containing the cinnabar; the method has the characteristics of being simple, rapid, visual and reliable. The method belongs to the field of chemical detection. The method adopts an X-ray fluorescent element analyzer to analyze and distinguish the authenticity of the cinnabar in a sample.
