Embodiment Construction

[0036] refer to figure 1 , Huge ships docked along the wharf wall. Vessel 1 may be any reasonably sized vessel, and it includes, for illustration purposes, a Malaccamax container ship. Malaccamax vessels are the largest size still allowed to pass through the restricted area of the Malacca Strait. A Malaccamax container ship typically has a draft of about 21 m, which is comparable to eg a VLCC (Very Large Crude Carrier). Malaccamax container ships typically have the following characteristics:

[0037] Full load draft - 21m

[0038] Overall length of vessel (Loa) - 470m

[0039] Beam (B) - 61.5m

[0040] Freeboard (F) - 14m

[0041] Length (Lbp) - 437.5m

[0042] Displacement (Md) - 435000t

[0043] Deadweight (Dwt) - 435000t

[0044] Square factor 0.751

[0045] Wind area - 18600m 2

[0046] The details of the propulsion of ship 1 at full load can be summarized as follows:

[0047] Main propeller (twin) diameter - 10m

[0048] Main engine power - propeller 90000...

Abstract

A scour protection for an underwater bottom alongside a quay wall is disclosed. The scour protection comprises a foundation/leveling layer of rocks with a size distribution conforming to 100 < Dn50 <225 mm, and a plurality of prefabricated reinforced concrete slabs, adjacently positioned on top of the foundation/levelling layer and leaving a gap between edges of the slabs, the slabs having a lateral dimension of at least 3.5 m. A method for providing the scour protection is also described.

Description

Background technique [0001] The invention relates to a scouring protection structure for an underwater bottom extending along a wharf wall. The invention also relates to a method of providing such a scour protection structure. [0002] Sea freight is constantly increasing in both volume and size. Over the past decade, the development of the maritime industry has been characterized by growth. Ships are getting bigger and bigger in order to be able to carry as much load as possible. The increasing size of cargo and cruise ships has had a major impact on port infrastructure, as docks need to be built deeper and quay walls need to be stronger. In addition, larger ships currently under development are equipped with far more power than has been known so far. The flow velocities acting on the quay walls and the harbor bottom in front of the quay walls associated with the larger and more powerful propellers used on these vessels are expected to increase to the point where severe d...
