Problems solved by technology

A conventional MPO connector has many components and a push / pull locking and unlocking mechanism, resulting in a relatively long connector design that wastes too much space, and may not be small enough for use in some applications
Also, conventional MPO connectors are composed of many components, increasing the cost of materials and labor as well as the complexity of the assembly

Embodiment Construction

[0056] As used herein, the term "optical fiber" is intended to apply to all types of single-mode and multimode optical waveguides, including one or more bare optical fibers, coated optical fibers, loose tube optical fibers, tight-packed optical fibers fiber, ribbon optical fiber, bend performance optical fiber, bend insensitive optical fiber, nanostructured optical fiber, or any other means for transmitting optical signals. A multi-fiber optical cable includes a plurality of optical fibers. To connect the cables together or to connect the cables to other fiber optic devices, the terminal ends of the cables may include connectors. The connector may include a housing structure configured to interact and connect with the adapter.

[0057] MPO connectors are multi-fiber connectors defined by industry standards. One brand of MPO connector is the MPT connector. Conventional MPO connectors have many components and push / pull locking and unlocking mechanisms, resulting in relatively...

Abstract

The present invention discloses an optical fiber connectors for MT / MPO type ferrule assemblies, having an overall connector length less than about 32 mm, for example, an overall length of about 18.5 mm for non-reinforced optical fiber cables, and an overall length of about 23.5 mm for reinforced optical fiber cables. In one embodiment, a connector comprises a ferrule assembly, and a housing coupled to the ferrule assembly and configured to couple to an adapter corresponding to the ferrule assembly. The connector further includes a lock coupled to the housing and configured to rotate so as to lock and unlock the housing from said adapter. An interface member coupled to the housing may include a stop configured to limit rotation of the lock. The interface member may include a reinforcement portion for reinforcing optical fiber cables.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications : This application claims priority to U.S. Patent Application No. 14 / 874,670, filed October 5, 2015, which is a continuation-in-part of U.S. Patent Application No. 14 / 790,077, filed July 2, 2015, And priority is claimed to Taiwan Patent Application No. 105118954 filed on June 16, 2016, all of which are incorporated herein by reference in their entirety. Background technique [0002] The present disclosure relates generally to fiber optic connectors and systems, and in particular to MPO (Multifiber Push) style fiber optic connectors having a compact design. [0003] Fiber optics have become the standard cabling medium used by data centers to meet the increasing demands for data capacity, transmission speed, and low loss. Fiber optic connectors are mechanical devices that are placed at the ends of optical fibers and serve as connectors for optical paths, for example when optical fibers are spliced to each other. The fiber optic...
