Embodiment Construction

[0039] Referring to the accompanying drawings, a protective safety helmet cover 10 for a post according to the present invention generally comprises an elongated hollow shell 12 comprising a cover 14 at one upper end and a cap at the other lower end. The portion includes an opening 16. Housing 12 may have an inverted, generally conical shape. One or more pairs of inner flanges 18 may be provided inside the housing 12 to slidably receive a corresponding one or more outer flanges 20 of the post 22, respectively.

[0040] A detachable quick-fit connector 24 may be provided inside at least one pair of inner flanges 18 for detachably quick-connecting the housing 12 to the upper portion of one of the outer flanges 20 . In use, the hardhat cover 10 may be held proximate the upper end of the post 22 when the cover 14 is open and held on the upper end of the post 22 when the cover 14 is closed. The removable quick-fit connection 24 may comprise a slide-fit connection, a press-fit con...

Abstract

A safety cap for a post comprising external flanges, wherein the safety cap comprises: a housing having upper and lower openings; a lid openable and closable relative to the upper opening; pairs of internal flanges inside the housing to vertically slidably receive the external flanges of the post; and a releasable quick-fit connector inside one pair of the internal flanges to releasably quick connect to an upper portion of one of the external flanges; wherein the safety cap is retained: adjacent to an upper end of the post when the lid is open; and over the upper end of the post when the lid is closed.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to protective safety caps for uprights. Background technique [0002] The exposed top ends of metal or plastic posts such as star stakes (or safety stakes, Y-posts or star bars) present a safety hazard and risk of injury to personnel and livestock on the worksite or farm. The posts are difficult to see and have a sharp, jagged and deformed top edge at their exposed tops, caused by hammering and knocking into the ground. [0003] Existing protective caps for star piles suffer from several disadvantages. They typically have a flexible plastic cap that fits securely over the sharp, jagged, deformed top edge of the star stake. When these capped star stakes were driven back into the ground, the sharp, jagged and deformed top edge cut through and pierced the soft plastic caps, re-exposing the dangerous tips of the star stakes. In addition, existing protective caps are easily knocked down by elements such as wind and rain, exp...
