Abstract

The invention relates to a seatbelt airbag safety device. Example devices, systems and methods for airbag anti-inflation are described. An example device includes an elongated member having a first end and a second end. The example device also includes a buckle retainer coupled to the first end of the elongated member. The device also includes a cutting member coupled to the second end of the elongated member. The cutting member includes a bottom section substantially perpendicular to the elongated member and a top section extending vertically from the bottom section. The cutting member also includes a through-hole defined by an interior surface of the bottom section of the cutting member and an interior surface of the top section of the cutting member.

Description

technical field [0001] The present disclosure generally relates to safety devices that prevent injury to vehicle occupants or maintenance personnel from undesired deployment of a seatbelt mounted airbag (eg, deployment when the airbag should be in a disabled mode). Background technique [0002] Vehicle airbags present a risk of injury from striking out of place or unprotected occupants or maintenance personnel when they accidentally inflate. Existing airbag anti-inflation safety devices electronically disable the airbag's explosive boost pump. However, the "ARMED" or "SAFE" status of the safety measures may not always be visible to maintenance personnel performing work on the seat. In some cases, parts of the seat must be removed to see if the airbag has entered the safety mode against activation. Therefore, accidental deployment may occur when a system is thought to be in a "SAFE" state, but is actually in an "ARMED" state. [0003] Additionally, existing safety equipmen...
