Embodiment Construction

[0020] Turning now to the drawings, in which like reference numerals refer to similar structures, specifically turn to Figures 1A to 1C , shows a vehicle 10, depicted as a bicycle. Although a bicycle will be described for purposes of illustration, those skilled in the art will understand that any vehicle that can use a quick release system as will be described below is included. For example, the vehicle may be a motorcycle, moped, scooter, riding lawn mower, golf cart, or any other vehicle.

[0021] The bicycle 10 has a front 12 including a fork assembly 14 and a steerer tube 16 . A steerer tube is included as part of the fork assembly, and the stem tube and headset 13 are attached to the steerer tube. Such as Figure 3A and 3B As shown, the steerer tube 16 into which the headset fits to allow the handlebars to turn the wheel left and right includes a stem tube 18 attached at one end to the steerer tube and terminated at the opposite end with a stem tube attachment 23 te...

Abstract

A quick release assembly for attaching handlebars to a vehicle is disclosed. The assembly is a cam assembly that in a first positon engages the handlebars of a vehicle in an operational position and when said cam assembly is in a second position disengages the handlebars to permit easy storage of the vehicle in a minimum of space. The quick release assembly permits a tool free assembly of a vehicle with a handlebar, such as, for example, a bicycle.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a quick release mechanism and a bicycle using the same. Background technique [0002] Bicycles are becoming an important part of new urban planning, with some urban plans completely devoid of any internal combustion engines or even motorized vehicles of any kind. Bicycles are a viable option for such "green" urban planning. However, for consumers, bicycles are difficult to assemble because various tools need to be used to assemble the bicycles. Many times, consumers will need the assistance of a bike technician, which adds to the cost of the bike. Also, even when the bicycle is assembled by the consumer, there is no guarantee that the handlebars and stem are in the proper position. Shipping and storage are also concerns. When a bike is shipped to a consumer, it is often disassembled and it takes hours to assemble it from the parts in the shipping box. The reason for transporting a bicycle in this manner is that, on...
