Problems solved by technology

[0006] Breathing circuit components that include this breathable material may have reduced durability and may be susceptible to damage by the end user
[0007] Prior art breathing gas tubing may also be prone to unwanted noise during use, especially when moving, flexing or bending the breathing gas tubing
This movement may cause a 'rustling' type noise, which is undesirable

Embodiment Construction

[0111] According to the present invention, a breathing circuit component is provided, at least a part of which comprises a breathable material. The breathing circuit components may comprise breathing gas conduits, such as the entire inspiratory or expiratory gas conduits, or shorter lengths or portions of conduits. By "short", it is meant that it is shorter than the inhaled or exhaled air duct. For example, the length of the gas channel between the inlet and outlet may be in the range of about 310mm to 410mm, or about 360mm to 380mm, and in one embodiment is 370mm.

[0112] In one embodiment, the breathing circuit component may include a short length of breathing gas tubing, one end of the short length of breathing gas tubing configured to connect to a patient interface. The breathing circuit component may include a mask adapter configured to connect between the patient interface and the breathing gas conduit. The other end of the shorter length of breathing gas tubing may i...

Abstract

In one embodiment, a breathing circuit component is provided and comprises: an inlet; an outlet; and an enclosing wall defining a gases passageway between the inlet and the outlet, at least a region of the wall comprising a membrane that allows the passage of water vapour without substantially allowing the passage of liquid water or respiratory gases, wherein, said membrane has a thickness of about 35 to 45 micrometers.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to components of breathing circuits for use in breathing apparatus, and in particular to components such as breathing gas tubing. Such breathing gas conduits may include inspiratory or expiratory gas conduits, or portions of such conduits, connected between the flow controller and the patient interface. Such breathing circuit components may include other parts of the breathing circuit, such as tubing connections, tubing adapters, tubing mounts, or shorter sections of breathing gas tubing for connection between the patient interface and the inspiratory gas tubing, The inspiratory gas conduit is used to deliver inspiratory gas to the patient interface. The present invention arose from work related to breathing gas conduits of the type described in our earlier patent applications US 2001054422 and US 20090126817, each of which is hereby incorporated by reference in its entirety. Background technique [0002] In breathing ap...
