Abstract

A heated patient tube assembly that carries and warms fluids to a desired temperature includes an elongated hollow tube and a heating assembly at least partially embedded within the tube for heating the tube and fluids carried in the tube. The heated patient tube assembly can be selectively used in any combination of three different modes: a first mode in which the heating assembly is connected toa control assembly, a second mode in which the heating assembly is powered wirelessly, and a third mode in which the tube is inserted into and heated by an external warming device.

Description

Background technique [0001] Intravenous (IV) lines, enteral feeding tubes, blood vessels, and other fluid lines are commonly used to deliver IV fluids, milk, feeding formula, blood, and other fluids to infants, the elderly, and other patients. Since these fluids are usually collected and refrigerated in advance, they must be warmed before being administered to the patient. [0002] For this purpose, fluid warming assemblies have been developed. One conventional type of fluid warming assembly includes a heated housing through which a fluid tube passes so that the fluid in the tube is heated as the fluid passes through the heated housing. However, conventional heating enclosures are configured for use with specific diameter fluid pipes, thus rendering them impractical for use with different sized pipes. Fluid tubes of different sizes and purposes are often used for short periods of time, and each tube requires a different model or type of heating enclosure. This significantly...
