According to the method, based on real-time quantitative PCR, the DNA of a genome of cattle (such as Qinchuan cattle) is used as a template, partial fragments of the copy number variation region of the GAL3ST1 gene of cattle are amplified by utilizing a pair of specific PCR primers, partial fragments of a universal transcription factor 3 gene of the cattle are used as internal reference by utilizing another pair of specific PCR primers, the quantitative result is calculatedby utilizing a method of 2*2-delta delta Ct, and the copy number variation type of an individual is determined. The method is established on the correlation basis between the copy number variation and growth traits of the GAL3ST1 gene of cattle and is favorable to accelerating the cattle molecular mark assisted selective breeding work.
