Problems solved by technology

[0007] However, it is often complex and expensive where recomputation is required
Government or authority plan reviews can take a long time, and engineering reviews can be expensive
Other complications include the fact that previous design or system information may not be available, whether lost, never completed, misplaced, or otherwise missing
Pressure and flow testing can also be difficult on the highest floors of office buildings requiring renovation

Embodiment Construction

[0026] figure 1 An example embodiment is shown of a sprinkler 10 having a flexible body that can be attached to a source of fire suppression liquid, such as a pipework network of a fire suppression system (not shown). An example shower 10 having a flexible body includes a shower head 12 . Such as figure 1 and figure 2 Shown in , the shower head 12 defines a discharge opening 14 . A deflector 16 is mounted on the shower head in spaced relation to the discharge opening. In this embodiment, an adapter 18 extends from the shower head. Adapter 18 defines a bore 20 in fluid communication with discharge opening 14 . A flexible conduit 22 extends from adapter 18 . Flexible conduit 22 is in fluid communication with bore 20 of adapter 18 . The flexible conduit has an inlet end 24 attachable to the source of fire suppression liquid.

Abstract

A shower having a flexible body for fire suppression includes a shower head. An adapter extends from the shower head, and a flexible conduit extends from the adapter. The conduit may be connected to a fire extinguishing liquid source. The showerhead with a flexible body has a composite K-factor indicative of a discharge flow rate from a discharge opening defined by the showerhead head, and may directly replace showerheads with the same K-factor without changes in hydraulic characteristics of a fire extinguishing system in which the showerhead with a flexible body is integrated. An adapter-free embodiment in which a flexible conduit extends from the shower head is also feasible.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application is based upon and claims priority from US Provisional Application No. 62 / 870,102 filed July 3, 2019 and incorporated herein by reference. technical field [0003] The invention relates to components for use in fire suppression systems. Background technique [0004] The various codes and standards governing the fire protection industry, and in particular the installation of fire sprinklers create restrictions on the components that can be installed. In particular, fire sprinklers are rated by a K-factor, which is a measure of the amount of water a sprinkler can deliver at a given pressure. The K factor is given by the formula Defined where q = flow rate in GPM and p = pressure in PSI. K factors range from about 2.8 to about 34, with K factors of about 3.6-8.0 being common in residential and light commercial applications. [0005] In order to ensure that the water pressure at each individual sprinkl...
