example 1
[0104] In this example, this distribution material comprises about 80% by weight fluff (short fiber) pulp (Rayonier R-9401 mercerized southern softwood rolled pulp and about 20% by weight Danaklon chopped (5mm) 2.2 denier polyethylene / polypropylene (PE / PP) sheath / core conjugate binder fiber with S2 / B2 / 39 finish. This finish is claimed to remain hydrophilic after repeated soiling. The material is available in three different densities: Produced at 0.05g / cc, 0.1g / cc and 0.2g / cc, the basis weight is about 100-250g / m 2 , while showing the basis weight of 0.05g / cc, 0.1g / cc and 0.2g / cc is about 125g / m 2 material examples for comparison.
[0105] These materials were tested according to the Horizontal Wicking Test using 2.54 cm (1 inch) x 20.32 cm (8 inch) coupons in a total of three replicates. The results are shown in Table 1, where weights are given in grams of fluid retained, times are in seconds and DNR means not reached.

example 2
[0110] The distribution material of the present invention should wick artificial menstrual fluid a distance of 2.54 centimeters (1 inch) in less than 1.5 minutes in the horizontal wicking test to be considered successful. Materials meeting this performance criterion typically have a high percentage pore size distribution (usually greater than 50%, more specifically greater than 60%, and especially greater than 70%) with a pore diameter of about 80-400 microns and a density of less than about 0.15g / cc. It is believed that increasing the wetting of the pore surfaces creates a greater wicking driving force, which maintains liquid movement in smaller pores with higher resistance.
[0111] The personal care product system of the present invention is designed to provide controlled storage of final fluid in a centralized area along the length of the catamenial pad of such product. This functional behavior is particularly desirable to prevent side leakage, the predominant form...
example 3
[0123] Nonwoven fabrics are produced from fluff pulp and synthetic binder fibers using an air-laid process. Additional fluff pulps include Coosa 0054, 100% by weight softwood, available from Kimberly-Clark; Weyerhaeuser NB 416 or NF 405 100% by weight softwood, Rayonier 9401; or any other fluff pulp of similar properties. The synthetic binder fiber is Hoechst-Celanese T-255 (H-C T-255), ranging from 1.8 denier to 3 denier. Any other adhesive capable of imparting similar adhesion to the composite fabric may be used.
[0124] The relevant basis weights and densities are shown in Table 1
