Problems solved by technology

However, due to the layered structure of the above-mentioned devices, the installation of the mold is often difficult
In the case of low-viscosity solutions, even after installation, the original vertically oriented part of the mold in use can cause serious leakage problems from the substrate
Especially for expensive reagent materials, such leakage problems are very economically disadvantageous
And this leakage can also cause another variable in solution handling, making bandwidth and thickness uniformity more difficult

Embodiment

[0078] For the use of test strips or otherwise, the following results can be observed according to the present invention. For solutions of the invention having the attributes of the preferred solutions described above, deposition was performed on a Pd-coated plastic tape moving at a speed of 25 ft / min. Coating tests were performed in triplicate with different molds and at three feet Start, midpoint, end measurements on the tape section where the three foot tape was produced in the middle of the 15 second production process. At each die setup, set the fluid parameters and die / strip spacing to obtain the most constant solution tape coating results. In order to obtain a stable bandwidth change indication, the sample was dried under the same conditions using the above-mentioned "solution drying system". Measurements were then made by the Avant Vision Measurement System produced by Optical Gaging Products (Rochester, NY).

Abstract

A system for laying down stripes of solution on substrate is described. The substrate preferably comprises a web of material set on a backing roller passed by a specially configured die. The die includes at least a mouth with lips extending beyond a face or body of the die. The die is adapted to avoid fluid leakage therefrom. Upper and lower portions of the die defining the mouth are preferably substantially flat and mirror images of each other. The lips are preferably placed in close proximity to the material on which the solution is to be deposited. Solution passing through the mouth of the die is directed to the webbing and deposited in a substantially constant thickness stripe or band. Often, the solution comprises a reagent-type solution. The solution coating is typically dried onto the substrate. Dried product may then be used in reagent test strop production.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a method for depositing a chemical composition in solution on a substrate. The invention is particularly suitable for depositing a solution to be dried on a substrate which is then used to manufacture reagent test strips. Background of the invention [0002] Analyte detection assays show that the results of these tests play an important role in diagnostic analysis in applications that include use in various clinical laboratory tests, home tests, etc. These more common analytes include glucose, alcohol, formaldehyde, L-glutamic acid, glycerol, galactose, polysaccharide proteins, creatinine, ketones, vitamin C, lactic acid, leucine, malic acid, pyruvic acid, Uric acid and steroids. The aforementioned analytical assays are typically performed with physiological fluids such as tears, saliva, blood, blood. As the importance of analytical tests has increased, various analytical test methods and d...
