Abstract

Pouch-type lithium polymer batteries and methods of making them are disclosed. Such batteries include a wound electrode assembly including positive and negative plates and a separator. Positive and negative tabs are attached to the positive and negative plates and extend from the electrode assembly. The electrode assembly is packed into a pouch including a chamber and a lid. Positive and negative tabs extend out of the bag. The protective circuit module is electrically connected to the positive and negative electrode tabs, and is molded with or encased in resin to form a protective circuit structure disposed opposite to the front surface of the pouch. The pouch-type lithium polymer battery of the present invention can be used in external devices such as laptop computers or PDAs. The protection circuit structure of the present invention will not be short-circuited with the circuit of the external device.
